Youth Academy

What is Thunder Academy?
The Thunder United Youth Academy (Academy) is open to boys and girls 5-8 years old and designed to help each child better understand the game. It is a bridge between recreational and competitive soccer in a fun, organized program that provides a positive learning environment for developing basic soccer skills (first touch, passing, receiving, dribbling). Some key objectives are:

  • Develop fundamental skills
  • Promote physical fitness
  • Motivate & challenge each player through various, fun activities
  • Teach proper sportsmanship
  • Foster a passion for the game

What are the practices and training like?
Practices are Tuesday and Thursdays 6-7 pm. Licensed TUMFC trainers will run practices alongside volunteer coaches. Coaches will receive concussion training and complete background checks. Practices are at Lebanon Sports Complex.

Does the Academy play games?
Players will be divided into teams based on age and registration numbers.  The Academy participates in the YDL Festivals versus local clubs and GCSL DL for the oldest players. These will be played at the various fields on weekends throughout the season. Coaches will rotate players and provide encouragement. The idea is not to worry about the score, but to encourage the players to try new things, dribble the ball, make a move, etc.  Plus, it allows the kids to do what they like most – play in a game!
